BOYS WATER POLO BY-LAWS
ARTICLE 1
Governing Rules
Section 1. The Scholastic Section of the National Federation Water Polo Rules shall be the official rules of the league.

Classifications
Section 1. The official team designations in water polo are Varsity and Frosh/Soph.
ARTICLE III
Games and Practice Limitations
Section 1. Practice limitations outlined in Article VII of the General By- Laws shall be in effect.
Section 2. The team and an individual shall have a minimum of nine (9) days practice before the first game.
Section 3. The varsity team may play the maximum number of games allowed by the C.C.S.; the Frosh/Soph may play the maximum number of games allowed by the C.C.S.
3.1 Tournaments will count towards maximum games played according to C.C.S. By-laws. Each tournament must guarantee a total number of games played. This total is counted towards maximum games total.
Section 4. Teams may play no more than two (2) contests in any school week, excluding tournament play.
Section 5. League Tournament counts towards CCS points.
ARTICLE IV
Game Management - Player Eligibility
Section 1. If an athlete competes in a varsity league contest, the athlete may not return to the Frosh/Soph competition.
Section 2. Game times
2.1 Varsity: 3:00 p.m. and any other time with prior agreement of both coaches and principals. (e.g. night games)
2.1.1 the game time will change to 2:45 p.m. after day light savings time.
2.2 Frosh/Soph: Games to follow all varsity competition, no later than fifteen (15) minutes after the conclusion of the varsity games.
Section 3. Length of Quarters
3.1 Varsity - seven (7) minutes.
3.2 Frosh/Soph - five (5) minutes.
ARTICLE V
League Championship - C.C.S Representation
Section 1. Seeding for the Tournament: Determined by the first round of league play. If a tie exists for the league games.
1.1 The following rules shall apply if two (2) or more teams have the same league record after the round robin in order to seed the tournament.

1.1.2.3 A draw out of a hat with teams involved - drawing in alphabetical order.

2.2 Division with 6 Teams:

Section 3. League Champion and Standing: Determined by the results of the first (1) round of play and the league tournament.

3.1 In the case of a tie in the first (1st) round points the teams tied will split the points evenly.
3.2 If the total points are equal, the team who placed higher in the Division tournament will place higher in the Division standings.
Section 4. C.C.S Qualifications: The Champios of each division (DeAnza & El Camino) receive automatic berths to CCS, all others must qualify thru at large procedure.
ARTICLE VI
All League Selection and Candidates:
Section 1. Number of candidates per team is based on the league standing.
Section 2. Coaches by a majority vote (one delegate per school) shall determine:
2.1 Most Valuable Player of the League
2.2 Most Valuable Goalie of the League
Section 3. By league standing each team shall be allowed candidates with a disqualification allowed by a majority vote of the coaches present (one vote per school).
3.1 First-place team guaranteed = four (4) candidates
Second-place team guaranteed = three (3) candidates
Third-place team guaranteed = two (2) candidates
Fourth-place team guaranteed = one (1) candidate
Fifth-place team guaranteed = one (1) candidate
3.2 The other four (4) spots will be determined in a manner similar to MVP selection.
3.3 If the MVP or All Goalie is from one (1) of the first four (4) teams, he counts as on (1) of the automatic places: and the above process will be used to determine five (5) spots.
3.4 The same process will be used to select eight (8) honorable mention players.
3.5 Each school which participates in the League season will be represented by at least one (1) player as All-League 1st team or Honorable mention.
ARTICLE VII
Re-Leaguing of De Anza and El Camino Divisions
Section 1. Re-leaguing will be reviewed at the end of each water polo season by the coaches.
Section 2. Teams eligible for review:
2.1 De Anza: Last two (2) place finishers.
2.2 El Camino: First and second place finishers.
2.3 A team in either division can turn in a petition to move up or down.
Section 3. Criteria for re-leaguing
3.1 Frosh/Soph overall winning percentage.
3.2 Number of returning Juniors.
3.3 Number of returning sophomores and Freshmen with varsity experience.
3.3.1 Sophomores and Freshmen playing varsity must be declared by the third league game.
If they are moved up after that deadline, they are not considered varsity.
3.4 Varsity won/loss record from the current season.
3.4.1 The Central Coast Section water polo points system will be used in order to rank the teams.
3.4.2 The last fourteen (14) non-league games will be used. Central Coast Section opponents will be counted first, then non-Central Coast Section opponents.
3.5 The number of years coaching varsity water polo.
3.5.1 Anywhere
3.6 Petition to move
3.6.1 Must be approved by two thirds vote from each division.
Section 4. Points for each criteria
4.1 First = 4 points
Second = 3 points
Third = 2 points
Fourth = 1 point
4.1.1 One placing and one point will be added to each placing for every additional team being reviewed over the four.
4.1.2 No points will be awarded for criteria 3.2 and 3.3 if the team doesn't have any athletes in that criteria.
4.1.3 No points will be awarded for criteria 3.5 if a coach knows that he /she will not be returning and a replacement has not been named. Also, if a new coach doesn't have any past experience.
4.2 The two (or three if needed) teams that accumulate the most points will be placed into the DeAnza division and the other teams will be placed into the El Camino division.
4.2.1 If there is a tie in points between teams
4.2.1.1 Head on Head competition
4.2.1.2 Number of returning freshmen and sophomores on the varsity team (refer to 3.3 and 3.3.1.
4.2.1.3 If still tied, teams stay in the division they are currently in.
