Defending Champ Anita Siraki had raced 4:46.3 on the anchor leg of a Distance Medley in the afternoon, so she was back a bit here, with one expecting her to move to the top pack, but she could never do that. Kaltenbach showed some scary gears after six laps, when she blazed lap seven in 73 seconds (9:44 3200 pace) to race away from the pack, then finished in 74 to record a stunning 10:11.97, among prep history's top 25 times ever. This from a soph who just recently started running everyday, after previously dedicating three days a week to her track training. She has not totally given up the soccer bit, still does the club thing, but has given up the school soccer squad. Her 1600 splits, by the way 5:10 and 5:01 in case you had not figured!!!

Candice Baucham of LB Poly was amazing here. She had all four of her fair jumps at least a foot ahead of second place, with a 40-09.75 opener, 41-10.75 second jump, foul, 41-09, a 42-03.5 (!!! wind +1.4), then a pass. One of local prep history's finer series, taking us back to the days of Juliana Yendork in this event.

With one of the great local seasons ever with a series of 150'+ dual meet performers, she proved more than ready for a big nationwide group in the meet this day. Guzman opened up with her best throw, then watched as some came out over 145 feet, but the winner did add 151-09 and 157-02 on her second and third throws before fouling the final three times. Vao Faoa added about 13 feet to her season's best in third at 150-09, with 143-08 needed to make the "field of eight" finals group!
