1/15/02 – Unofficial Minutes For CCS Pre-Season Meeting

(By Walt Van Zant)

CCS Meets

During the past few years, we have held a North and South sub section meet, a semi finals, and a finals. The CCS office has proposed to the Board of Managers that the North and South meets be eliminated. Thus, just 32 competitors per event (not including at-large entrants) will qualify for the semi finals as compared to 48 qualifying for the sub section meets. The Board of Managers will meet on 1/24 to decide this issue. The CCS office will post the Board’s decision within a day of the Board’s meeting.

If sub section meets are held, they will be run on 5/11/02. The semi finals and finals will be held on 5/18 and 5/24 regardless of whether we continue the old system or change to a two-meet format.

Ken Johnson stated that a competitor must compete in the varsity division of the league meet in order to qualify for the CCS meet. If a competitor competes in the frosh-soph league finals rather than the varsity finals, he is not eligible to compete in the CCS meet. The exception is in Relays where the team qualifys and not the individuals.

All coaches at the meeting were asked to note section 3F of the track by-laws. This section states that all entries to the CCS meet if a 3-meet format are used must be submitted to the CCS office by 9AM on the Sunday following their league championships. If a 2-meet format is adopted by the Board of Managers on 1/24/02, then the entries must be submitted by 9AM on the Tuesday following the league championships.

Section 3F also states that no replacements will be allowed for entries submitted to the CCS office. Thus, if an athlete scratches after the deadline, no replacement will be allowed.

The coaches agreed to make a change to the CCS semi finals and finals assignments for past years. The MHAL will be in charge of the discus. And, the WVAL will now take care of the girls long jump.

We did not discuss assignments for the sub section meets if they are held this year.

Uniforms

It was noted that athletes may not wear any jewelry while competing other than one watch. This includes earrings, no matter where they are attached – tongue, ears, belly button, etc.

SJCC (site of the Semis and Finals) now has two jump pits on the inside of the track where both the LJ & TJ will take place. The shot ring is now located over by the start of the 300 hurdles.

SCVAL is to handle the HJ for the CCS finals (as we've done in the past).

June 4 @ 4:00 at the CCS office is the date/time of the Post-CCS Track meeting.
