2002 CCS Qualifying Guesstimate

Dec 13, 2001

Version 2 of my estimates. I'm now using the new CBEDs, but the numbers may shift depending on how CCS deals with schools without track teams and schools with boys and girls in different leagues. I basically did the calculation for boys and girls separate, but assumed that coed schools had equal number of boys and girls. Anyways, here's the new results:

League Boys Girls
BVAL 9 10
PAL 5 5
SCVAL 5 6
MBL 4 4
MTAL 2 2
SCCAL 3 3
PSAL 1 1
WCAL 3
GPSAL 1

Most of the changes are due to the fact that I screwed up last time in dealing with the schools with boys and girls in different leagues (I think I did it more right this time).

Folks,
The "new" track by-laws on the CCS website has an explanation of how the qualifiers to the CCS Trials meet would come from the leagues without a sub-section meet. I did a quick calculation using last year's CBED's to see how many qualifiers each league would get. Please note that this year's CBED's will most assuredly be different, but I don't think that the number of qualifiers would change much.

League Boys Girls
SCVAL 5 (-4) 6 (-4)
PAL 6 (-3) 6 (-4)
BVAL 9 (-3) 9 (-3)
WCAL 2 (-3)
GPSL 1 (-1)
SCCAL 3 (-1) 3 (-1)
MBL 4 (-2) 4 (-2)
MTAL 2 (-0) 2 (-0)
PSAL 1 (-0) 1 (-1)
CPSAL 0 0

That adds up to 32 total. The numbers in parentheses are the difference from the old sub-section method of qualifying 48 total (I'm pretty sure I did this right, but the number of previous qualifiers were from memory). What does this all mean? I'm not sure. Remember, though, that there is an at-large provision, but it's only if the mark is in the top 8 out of all of the leagues, so it would be extremely unlikely for any SCVAL non-automatic qualifier to make it as an at-large.

Just something to chew on now that cross country is over.
