Kim Gleeson, Lynbrook

Sport: Track and field.

Events: Shot put, discus.

Class: Senior.

Accomplishment: Gleeson was named the top girls field athlete in the Central Coast Section Top 8 meet at Los Gatos High. She won both events -- with a throw of 38 feet, 4 inches in the shot put and 143-6 in the discus. Gleeson also holds the top CCS marks and school records in the discus (149-6) and shot put (39-4 3/4).

Comment: ``She is very quiet and unassuming,'' Lynbrook Coach Darrin Garcia said. ``When she gets in the ring she doesn't want to lose. She works so hard.''

Brett Gotcher, Aptos

Sport: Track and field.

Events: 1,600 and 3,200 meters.

Class: Senior.

Accomplishment: Gotcher took first place in both events at the CCS Top 8 meet Friday, running the 1,600 in 4minutes, 19.17 seconds and the 3,200 in 9:19.19. Gotcher owns the top CCS times for both events: 1,600 in 4:13.56 and 3,200 in 8:55.09, which is the second-fastest in the state. Gotcher has earned a partial scholarship to Stanford for track and cross country.

Comment: ``He ran to win,'' Aptos Coach Ben Sampson said. ``He dominated the races. Brett ran a smarter race instead of running all out. He is right on track, and hopefully he will double at CCS.''
