Kraemer, Follmar win two events each at finals
By Dick Sparrer
It was a great night for Milpitas. But you won't catch Marshall Clark of Saratoga complaining too much about the performance of his Falcons.
It was the night of the track finals in the El Camino Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League on May 1 at De Anza College, and Milpitas ran to team titles in the boys and girls varsity divisions.
But the Falcons ran well, too--well enough to win a few events and finish among the leaders in each of the four divisions contested.
Saratoga had a big night-and made a big statement for the future-by winning the boys frosh-soph and girls junior varsity divisions. The Falcons were also second in the girls varsity class and third in the boys varsity group.
Double winners Will Kraemer and Alicia Follmar led the Saratoga effort at the league meet.
Kraemer, a senior, and Follmar, a freshman, both starred for the Falcons during the cross country season, and both raced to wins in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter events at the league finals.
Kraemer rambled to a win in the 3,200 in 10:04.21, and he led a Saratoga sweep in the 1,600, finishing first in 4:28.39, with D. La second in 4:28.86 and R. La third in 4:29.74.
The La brothers ended up one-two in the 800 meters at the league meet. David won the event in 1:58.25 with Richard second in 2:00.04.
A couple of Falcons tied for second in the high jump, with Kevin Bromage and Mark Elfving each topping the bar at 6-0. Justin Zebb was fifth at 5-4.
Rounding out the list of placers for the Falcons in the boys varsity division were Greg Van Hoesen, fifth in the shot put at 42-10.5; Justin Gardner, sixth in the 400 in 55.80; and Tom Cummins, sixth in the discus at 116-8.
Follmar matched Kraemer's effort in the distance events for the Falcons. The freshman was first in the 1,600 in 5:14.56, and she also won the 3,200 in 11:27.69. Teammate Lauren Belomy was fifth in both the 1,600 in 5:45.78 and the 3,200 in 13:21.49. Follmar also chipped in with a second in the high jump at 4-10.
The Aura sisters, Evie and Anna, ran well for Saratoga. E. Aura was first in the 200 in 27.33 and second in the 100 in 13.7, and A. Aura was second in the 300 hurdles in 49.7 and fourth in the 100 hurdles in 17.32.

The Falcons dominated the field in the younger age groups. Saratoga rolled to 184 points to nearly double the point total of runner-up Cupertino in the boys frosh-soph division, and the Falcons finished with 166 points to finish well ahead of second place Homestead (105) in the girls junior varsity class.
