Follmar wins twice at CCS track finals

The high school track and field season came to an end for most Santa Clara Valley athletes last Friday night at the Central Coast Section finals held at Los Gatos High School--but not for Alicia Follmar of Saratoga and Yvan Pham of Lynbrook.

Follmar and Tsai each qualified for the CIF State Track and Field Championships to be held June 3-4 at Sacramento City College's Hughes Stadium. The top three placers in each event at CCS qualified for state.

Follmar was as impressive at the 2005 CCS finals as she has been throughout her brilliant four-year track and cross country career at Saratoga High. The talented senior won the 1,600 meters in 4:52.66--finishing more than nine seconds ahead of runner-up Jessica VanAusdall of Aptos--and she won the 800 in 2:07.79. Libby Jenke of Menlo was second in 2:08.70.

Pham, a senior, was second in the 300-meter hurdles in 38.83.

In other boys action, Lynbrook senior Justin Teng was fifth in the 400 in 50.12, Saratoga senior Danny Wallace tied for fifth in the high jump at 6-0 and Saratoga junior Ken Douglas was eighth in the 1,600-meter run in 4:28.28. Lynbrook was also seventh in the 4x100 relay in 43.45.

In girls competition, Lynbrook sophomore MayC Huang was fifth in the 1,600 in 5:09.44.

The Saratoga foursome of Follmar, Rachel Sabes, Nicole Sabes and Katie Barco romped to a sixth-place finish in the 4x400 relay in 4:02.48.
