SELA PAINI, ST. FRANCIS

Sport: Track and field.

Events: Throws. Class: Senior.

Accomplishment: Sela Paini fractured her right hand during a St. Francis basketball game in November. Five games after her February return, she broke her collarbone, putting her track and field season in jeopardy, too. Paini spent six weeks recovering, missing only one Lancers meet, and in a dual meet Wednesday against Notre Dame-Belmont, she set a school record with the third-longest discus throw in the state this year: 148 feet, 4 inches. She also recorded a 36-4 shot-put mark, which is sixth in the Central Coast Section this season. Paini finished second in the discus (137-7) on Saturday at the Stanford Invitational. ``Sela's a dedicated, conscientious athlete who works very hard at what she does,'' throws coach Roberta Chisam said. ``She's very easy to coach.''
