Ashton Purvis of St. Elizabeth (Oakland) and Kasey Rogers of Franklin (Elk Grove) were both out well
but Purvis pulled away at 15 meters to win, 6.94 to 7.04. Freshman Akawkaw of Poly (Long Beach)
was third in 7.29. and Sanmi George of Laguna Creek (Elk Grove) was fourth in 7.37.
Heat One
Ashton Purvis of St. Elizabeth (Oakland), the nation top freshman sprinter, was off in second but ran a
very controlled race to pass Kasey Rogers of Franklin (Elk Grove) after 30 meters. Purvis’ time of 6.93
is the second fastest in the national this year. Rogers finished second in 7.00 and Malaina Payton of
Fremont (Oakland) was third at 7.34.
Heat Two
Akawkaw Ndipagbor of Poly (Long Beach), just a freshman, had little trouble reeling in teammate
Erin Reid, 7.24 to 7.,31. Last year as an eighth grader Ndipagbor had best of 11.98, 24.31 and 53.73.
Sanmi George of Laguna Creek (Elk Grove) was third at 7.41

and the two led the field through a 2:38 for 800 meters. With 400 meters remaining, passed in 4:05, Heather
Babier of Dana Hills (Dana Point) took the lead and pulled away for a 5:23.54 win. One lap from the finish
Meghan Marvin of Clovis, Chloe Allen of Clovis West (Fresno) and Mary Rhoades of Carlmont (Belmont)
battled for the lesser places. Marvin held on for second in 5:25.31 but Rhoades got of for third in front of
Allen, 5:25.42 to 5:25.75.

in third. Fredronic maintained her lead and then extended the margin over the final 200 to win in 2:22.74.
Tarver moved for third to second on the final straight passing Hardy, 2:23.74 to 2:23.48. Sophomore
Alisha Brown of Madera was fourth at 2:27.98.

Vashti Thomas of Mt. Pleasant (San Jose) got a great start and had a comfortable lead for the first four
hurdles before Julian Purvis of St. Elizabeth (Oakland) made it close, 7.87 to 7.91, for the second and
third fastest times in the nation. Dahlys Marshall of James Logan (Union City) was third in 8.21 and
Ashtynn Baltimore of Marlborough (Los Angeles) was fourth in 8.46. Heat winner Briana Stewart
of James Logan in Union City false-started.
Heat 1
Briana Stewart of James Logan (Union City), who was fourth in the Golden West Invitational and
had a bests if 13.82w, and 14.15 in 2007, was out well and won easily over Vashti Thomas of
Mt. Pleasant (San Jose), the defending state champion at 100 hurdles and the second fastest
hurdler of all time, 8.12 to 8.45. Both runners advanced to the final as did Ashtynn Baltimore
of Marlborough (Los Angeles) in 8.59.
Heat Two
Dahlys Marshall of Valley Christian (San Jose) was out first but was quickly over taken by
Julian Purvis of St. Elizabeth (Oakland), who was the state runner up and finished second at
the U.S. Junior Championships last year. Purvis was timed in 7.96 and Marshall in 8.16.
Both runners advanced to the final. Purvis’ time is the second fastest time in the nation this season.

Evant Orange of Poly (Long Beach) was fourth in 6.69..

Junior Cameron Marshall of Valley Christian (San Jose), was a little tardy in getting
off but then had little trouble defeating Evant Orange of Poly (Long Beach), 6.55 to 6.72.
Heat Two
Junior Ventrail Love of West (Hanford), a 10.89 sprinter in 2007, led the entire way
to win in 6.58. D.J. Scott was second in 6.63 followed by Nico Reaves at 6.73.

a break at 1,320 opening up a substantial lead. Raul Arcos of Corona, who was never far
from the leaders, fought Maldonado for second with Eric Battles of Clovis West (Fresno)
close behind. Arcos closed very well over the final 160 but could not quite catch Suhr,
4:29.040 to 4:29.32. Clayton Graham of Calabasas also closed with a rush to grab third
in 4:33.97. Maldonado was four in 4:34.21 and Battles was fifth at 4:34.48.

went on to win in 7.74. Sophomore D.J. Morgan of Taft (Woodland Hills) held on well for
second in 7.68 with Maurice Valentine of Castro Valley, moving from fourth to third on the
run-in, clocking 7.70. James Kennedy of Serra (Gardena), who had run 7.69 in his heat,
was fourth in to 7.82.
Heat One
Junior James Kennedy of Serra (Gardena), the Southern Section Division IV champion,
with a best of 14.66, was away in second but quickly moved to the front and won easily
in 7.69. Lamont Shears of Davis held on for second in 7.94 and also qualified.
Heat Two
Sophomore D.J. Morgan of Taft (Woodland Hills), running in lane six, forged to very
small lead over the first hurdle and held the margin throughout. Maurice Valentine of
Castro Valley, a 7-0 ½ high jumper, was third off the final hurdle but closed well to
nip Aaron Burney of Granite Bay. . Morgan was timed in 7.69 with Valentine at 7,71
and Burney at 7.72. All three advanced to the final. Morgan, the best freshman in the
nation (14.22) last year.

the top returning shot putter in the nation at 64-1, did not compete.

Thank you all for the work you are doing for your sport. The California High School Dream Team Championships is creating a lot
of interest for our sport. When you can, please email me the roster of the athletes you have selected so far. Here are some
important facts about the meet:
1. U.S. Athletes will provide Team T-shirts for each region to compete in-

2. Each athlete will pay $8.00 entry fee to participate.
a. Have athlete buy ticket at the arena box office.
b. Athletes will gather with team coaches in the new Student Activity Center for meeting. Center will become available at 12:30 pm.
1. Athlete exchanges ticket for participant pass.

c. Pass will also get athlete into the USA vs. the World Visa Series Meet

a. Athletes will warm-up in the Student Activity Center

b. Athletes will check in with clerks in the student activity center when event is called and will be ushered:

c. Please note: visiting coaches will not be allowed on the lower level or on the Field of Competition. All school
coaches, parents, etc. must stay in the arena seats.

a. Coaches for the North and South teams will be housed just across the street from the Savemart Center at the University Inn
b. Athletes coming from outside area must provide their own housing.
7. Pole vault pole drop-off: North Corner of Savemart Center where the ramp goes down to the Lower Entrance to the Savemart Center.
Leave with security guard. Poles will be taken down to Center.

This meet, like the BCS Football Championships is creating the same elements-A big plus for our sport. Keep up the great work.
Notes on the Track:
1. Track was built in Pittsburg, KS by Tartan
2. Moved this week to Kansas City where it was fully set up and lanes, start lines and finish lines were painted on the track
3. Next week 5 trucks will transport to Fresno
Please email, phone, talk to anyone you know and encourage them to attend the meet. This could be just the start of something big here is California. Please encourage high schoolers to stay for the USA vs. the World Meet.
Grow the sport…Build back the fan base
As you may know or not know. Fresno is having the RUN FOR THE DREAM indoor meet Monday Jan21 at The Save mart Center in Fresno.
The meet is only for Elite California returning H.S athletes who will compete(unnatached) for Either the Bay team,Valley team or So.Cal team.
Lee web(James Logan )and myself are in charge of organizing and choosing the Bay team. I am incharge of choosing the boys team and lee the girls team.
There will be advertisments on dystatecal. The top 4 in the 100/HH/800/1600/3200/L.J/S.P./H.J/P.V. 4x160/4x400 from the 4 combined sections
will represent the Bay team. The girls will have the T.J. and not the S.P. All interested in competing should contact me for the boys and Lee for the girls .
The team will be chosen by Christmas and will be Posted. It should be noted that even if your not in the top 4 you could be chosen if the top athletes
