The WBAL Track & Field Trials will be held at Gunn High School in Palo Alto on Saturday, May 9. WBAL Track & Field Finals will take place at SHP on Friday, May 15. Please see the shared Google Document for the schedule for both meets. Due to the 6 lane track at SHP, we will modify the qualification standards from the bylaws as follows: 12 athletes will qualify in the 110H/100H, 200m, 400m, 300h and both relays for Varsity Finals. There will be two 6 lane heats with the fastest heat going 2nd. The winner can only come from the 2nd (fastest) heat. All other places will be determined by timed order. We will have only 6 athletes qualify for JV Finals in the 200m, 400m, 300h and both relays. We will continue with previous qualification standards as follows: 8 athletes qualify in the 100m 12 athletes qualify in the 1600 & 800 (We will run alleys - 8 inside, 4 fastest outside.) All 3200m heats will be Finals - JV Girls and JV Boys on Saturday, May 9, Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys on Friday, May 15. Top 9 Varsity athletes qualify in field events. Each school is responsible for supervision and running of different events - please sign up for an event on the Google Spreadsheet The top six places in the finals will be scored and those six individuals will receive honors (Place 1-3 medals, Place 4-6 ribbons). Teams may only enter one relay in each relay event. If there are 12 or fewer athletes signed up for a Varsity field event, the event will go straight to finals (except high jump and pole vault). In this case, all 12 (or fewer) will get the first 3 attempts of finals. The order will be reseeded and only the top 9 will get the last 3 attempts for the championships. JV field events will have 4 attempts on Saturday, May 9 and the results will be the final results. No JV trials for field events. Varsity Finals - field athletes receive 3 attempts then are re-seeded (provided they get a valid mark) for the final 3 attempts. Each WBAL member school is allowed to enter a maximum of three Varsity athletes per event unless the WBAL at-large standard is met. Please refer to the Google Spreadsheet for this year's at-large marks. ALL athletes must achieve a verifiable at-large standard in order to enter more than 3 athletes. Please send the at-large entries directly to me by the entry deadline. You will not be able to enter more than 3 athletes on Athletic.net. All entries must be received by Wednesday May 7 at 10:00PM. Late entries will have a 24 hour window to be received and that school will be fined $100 in order for the athletes to participate. No entries received after the 24 hours window will be accepted. An athlete must participate in at least 2 WBAL track meets to compete in the league meet. If an athlete has been unable to compete due to extenuating circumstances (injury, illness, death in family), the school may petition the BOM to allow the athlete to compete in the WBAL Championships.
