A huge bank of storm clouds, heavy with rain, loomed ominously over the nearby Santa Cruz mountains as runners toed the line for the opening leg of the Pyramid Relay. Despite the threatening weather, runners continued to line up and give it their all until the final event of the day was called. Only then did the skies start to deliver on the promise of rain. Too late! We had defied the elements and managed to enjoy ourselves while proving once again that runners do, in fact, get older and slower.
As the last runner crossed the line we took down the tents, packed up the equipment and headed to Jake's of Saratoga for pizza and reminiscing.
As this year showed one of the better turnouts of teams and runners in recent memory, there is little doubt that this event will be held again next year.
