RUNNER OF THE YEAR: Tie between Mork (Wash), Hart (Willow Glen), Templeman (Carlmont)
OUTSTANDING SENIOR: None chosen
OUTSTANDING JUNIOR: None chosen
OUTSTANDING SOPHOMORE: Steve Miller (Carlmont)
OUTSTANDING FRESHMAM: Tie between Hugh Miller (Jesuit) and Kelly Lawson (San Carlos)
SELECTION OF THE TEAM: Sponsored by the Northern California Track & Field Association (Harry
Young, President). Coaches committee composed of: Plato Yanicks (Menlo-Atherton), Chairman;
Bob McGuire (Pleasant Hill); Bob Wall (Lassen); Lou Bufkin (Washington); Terry Ward (St
Ignatius); Ken Thomas (Soquel); Carl Renner (Cupertino); Bob Woods (Camden).
AWARDS: Emblems (winged foot with All N.C., 1970) will be presented at the Golden Gate Indoor
meet at the Cow Palace during the high school program. Awards will be for the first team members
of the All Northern California team. The awards will be presented on Friday Jan 22, 1971.
REPEATERS FROM LAST YEARS HONOR TEAM: Genschmer, Hale, Lough, Mork, Templeman.
Tom Hale was also named on the first team his sophomore and junior years. Chamness, Hart,
and Knott were named to the second team All Northern California selections last season.
SECTIONS REPRESENTED: North Coast, Central Coast, Northern, San Joaquin, SF, Oakland.
NOTES: The selection committee could not come up with one outstanding runner of the year
due to the closeness of the competition. In head to head competition, Hart beat Mork and
Templeman, in the National postal, but lost to Templeman in the section. Hart was ill the day
of the section meet to further complicate matters. No agreement could be made on the
outstanding junior, although Tolleson, Garcia, Grubbs and Brooks, were prime contenders.
