The expected match-up between Alameda's Kexel and St. Joe's Mason never
materialized, as the very tough course is suited for Kexel's charging
style, and took away the legs from Mason. The team win went to St.
Joe's as pretty much expected, but Piedmont used its historic
late-season surge to beat St. Mary's who had looked very strong just
last week. Thney will meet again in the section meet to sort things out
finally.

who had been improvingly rapidly themselves this season. The tough
course severely depressed times.

University continued its streak of BCL titles behind the fine running
of Frosh Drake, who surged near the end of the race to take the win over
a tight cluster of front-runners. Branson was the only school to offer
much of a challenge to University, and that was a bit back. This league
and the Coastal Mountain Conference provide most of the NCS's firepower
in D-V, and the quality of individuals in the BCL is top notch this
year.

University is the finest team in the state (some claim La Canada of
L.A., but we here in the NCS know better), and they will have little
trouble the rest of the way at the MOC and State Meet. In fact, the BCL
meet is about as tough as the State Meet will be for the Red Devils.
Head Royce snuck in a freshman in the University pack, and Gardiner of
Lick and McNabola of Convent were right behind to pick off any
stragglers. University's Morser, defending State individual champion,
broke her own course record. On a mere mortal plane, the Convent team
looks strong as well, and is a strong favorite to go to the State Meet
along with University in D-5.

The rain course was an emergency measure after the adobe trails were
deemed unrunnable. DLS took the measure of Antioch one more time in a
season-long series of meetings. Lopez of Ygnacio Valley took the race
out early in a mild upset over favored Hernandez of Antioch. DLS's
legendary pack was the key as the Spartans put their top 5 in the top 11
of a highly competitive 10 team league.

the team honors. In an upset, Carondelet beat favored Clayton Valley

running of frosh Janie Nolan, who ran near the leaders the whole race.

it ws Middletown that finally prevailed over Kelseyville in a show of
which team had patched together the best backup for their frontrunners

Granada showed impressive grouping in placing 1-5 in :33 at the front
of the championship race. The Matadors will be tough in D-3.
Livermore's Donovan Jones had to run hard to shake the vastly improved
Tajir of Amador, who was in full chase the entire 3 miles. Livermore
edged Amador in a reversal of their dual match two weeks ago. It looks
like the Cowboys are making their annual post-season surge to State.

Alaei very close to help the team picture. The surprise was in pre-meet
favorite Susan Chan of Monte Vista falling off the pace, and Foothill's
Newton pulling away for the individual win in the last half of the
race. Foothill solidifies its claim as a contender in D-3.

This race was a real barnburner, with three of the best in NCS just
flying through this course. Mack prevailed in record fashion (the top
three all broke the course record) to reinforce his claim to being the
top individual in NCS, and certainly a contender on the state level.
Laurie and Rodriguez are not shabby either. The team picture saw Ukiah
continue its late season surge to easily win the meet, with Maria
Carillo overtaking Montgomery on the strength its two top runners to
grab 2nd.

Montgomery ran surprisingly close to Santa Rosa, but perhaps not that
surprising. The Sara and Sarah tandem ran fast, with Cox of Santa Rosa
splitting the pair. Jenny Aldridge of Maria Carillo pulled away from the
trailing pack to finish behind the big three. Piner was also a strong
team today, and hopes to be a contender in D-2. This is a very strong

Miramonte, with both teams showing excellent grouping as they fine-tune
