ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Shannon Rowbury, S. Heart Cathedral
Accomplishment: Rowbury defended her individual title by setting a course record in the Small Schools division at the Artichoke Invitational in Half Moon Bay to help Sacred Heart Cathedral win the team title for the third time in four years. Rowbury, the state 800-meter champ last spring, ran the 2 1/4-mile course in 13:27 after opening the week by turning in the fastest time in the first league meet of the season last Tuesday.

Grant Zider, Menlo
Accomplishment: Zider scored seven goals, including the winner in the seventh overtime, as Menlo beat Soquel 8-7 in the championship game of the St. Francis tournament on Saturday. Zider, who did not play water polo until his sophomore year, scored 19 goals and had eight steals as Menlo went 4-0 at the tournament. He has scored 51 goals for the 17-1 Knights.
Comment: ``He's very raw in his ability. He doesn't do the typical moves, so he is hard to defend,'' Menlo Coach Jack Bowens said. ``He really has a good sense for getting the ball to the goal.''
