- Coach Hank starts the year out on crutches.
Lynbrook Center Meet:
- Lots of construction on OUR course!
- Makayla gets lost but Aya stays on target.
- Second fastest Lynbrook F/S team time.
- Fastest Lynbrook JVG team time ever.
- Aya & Eugene are Athletes Of The Week.
Firebird Invite:
- Zohreh wins the JV Girls race while Christina takes 3rd.
- The girls make a good show while Francine is visiting Annopolis.
- JV Boys grab a second place finish.
- 65 folks at Jakes - what a wild place.
- Jon (DeSimone) & Zohreh are Athletes Of The Week.
Saratoga Invite:
- Varsity Girls win easily.
- Amber leads the JV girls to a 2nd place finish.
- Zohreh gets a taste of Varsity for the first time.
- Christina out kicks and then is outkicked for a 2nd place finish.
- Luis goes out strong - and that about sums it up (55th).
- Morgan & Kenji go 1-2 in the JV Boys race to lead the team win.
- It was hot - when will summer end?
- Kenji Cox-Muranami and Sasoon Kim are Athletes Of the Week.
Central Park Invite:
- Cheerleaders drop off treats.
- "Which Way do I Go?" Akhavan gets totally confused and top 3 get DQ'd.
- VG & JVG both run strong with VG beating MV.
- JV Boys tie for 2nd (a mere 5 points behind 1st) with Daniel Low (6th
man) breaking the tie.
Stanford:
- Welcome to the Big Times... VB 34th out of 35!
- VG fair better with an 18th (out of 30) place finish.
- Zohreh holds the lead over Aya until the last 400 meters.
- No one 'tosses their cookies'.
- Guys ALL get to the start line on time.
- Great weather - great day.
- Andrew Hao and Aga Goslicka are Athletes Of the Week.
- Paul Yu knows everyones name before the coaches because of rollcall - thanks Paul.
- Coach Marshall Clark of Saratoga dies of a heart attack while running with his team.
- Pasta feeds (and non-pasta feeds) are a regular tradition.
- Hash Run, Bagel Run, Jamba Juice Run, Slurpee Run, Donut run... you get the idea.
- Rallye Run - Paul Yu, Victor Li & Calvin Wu win this annual event.
Crystal #1:
- The Love Affair with Crystal begins?
- Folks see the course for the first time and run very strong.
- Lynbrook ties Paly for 2nd but Kate Bossange breaks the tie so Lynbrook takes it.
- JV Girls take 3rd led by Soo Lee.
- Lots of good running but still not going all out!
- JV Boys take 2nd led by Charles Chen, a major break thru race.
- Aga & Walter PR and then come back later that week to PR again.
- Christina Liao and Charles Chen are Athletes Of the Week.
Monterey Bay Invite:
- Our first look at the CCS course (and I saw it twice in one weekend).
- We are in the middle of no where!
- Happy Birthday Steph.
- Christina has to walk the course (due to a twisted ankle).
- Coach Hovancik saves the day by moving a barrier so the runners can go the right way.
- Jason Whitsett and Kate Bossange are Athletes Of the Week.
Crystal #2:
- We (VG) run as a team getting PRs and a new sense of the word TEAM.
- A Kodak Moment at the top of the hill with 7 runners but Hank misses the shot.
- Francine is back and Luis continues his drive to Varsity.
- Lynbrook runs 4 Varsity Boys teams and 3 Varsity Girls teams in the same race.
- VG's finish a mere 3 points behind MV to continue the flip-flop.
- Francine Lee and Luis Jensen are Athletes Of the Week.
Lynbrook Invite/FUHSD Championships:
- VG loose their title (FUHSD) to MV while placing 2nd overall, as do JVG.
- Halloween, Homecoming, Harry Potter and Death all show up to watch.
- Final tune-up before Leagues - watch out Monta Vista.

- VB run fastest Lynbrook time on this course - ever (by :15).

- Despite a cold, Zohreh makes Top 12 but misses State by 2.
- Sasoon, Christina and Kate all PR and run Awesome.
- Francine and Aga fight to finish strong.
- Third place and home we go and think about States for 2003... or do we...
- We actually qualify as an At-Large team thanks to some research by the Gunn coach.
- Team finishes 16th in the Combined Standings.
- Berson PRs by 18 seconds.
- Coach has to fill out delinquencies and you have to get them.
- VG team GPA is 3.7143 ('01 was 3.3777)
- VB Team GPA is 3.6170 ('01 was 3.6458)
