Feedback for State Meeting - 2003

I need to get feedback from the CCS coaches on how they feel about the qualifying from section to state meet in XC for next year. Do we want to increase the placing in which an individual needs to place at our section meet to qualify for the state championships? The concern was raised when some sections had so many team qualifiers in their top 15 finishers that it did not give an individual to qualify very easily. Are we keeping some top individuals from running in the state championships?

PRESENTLY THE XC HANDBOOK READS: (individual entry) Qualifications from sectional competition to the State CIF Cross Country Championships as an individual entry are based upon individual place finish. Qualifying teams plus the top five highest placed individuals (not on a qualifying team) as per the criteria above in each division will qualify from section to state meet finals.

Southern Section - Individual must place in top 20 at section finals to qualify
Sections Entering Two or More Teams - Individuals must place in top 12 at section finals to
qualify.
Sections Entering One Team - Individuals must place in top 8 at section finals to qualify.

1. If we increased the depth from our present levels of 8 and 12 deep to 10 & 12 deep respectively would this allow the best runners to be in the race?

2. For the state Track Championships, the organizers want to post on their website the performance marks for the qualifiers, not the heats. Too many people just downloaded and the program sales went down and if there were changes that had to be made, some athletes were not prepared to be in different heats. this way, the meet management can make changes without causing more problems with warmups and preparations for the events.

3. If there are new schools in our section, we need to contact Hal Harkness to receive the code to program into our meet management programs so when data is shared, they have the correct school codes statewide.

4. In the 800 prelims at the State Finals they want to put the slowest runner behind the fastest runner so that they do not need a fourth heat. Do we want heat winners and top 5 qualifiers if 3 heats, or top 2 and top 2 times to qualify for the finals.

Please have them email their responses to me by Jan 10th. I have a meeting in mid January to cover these topics.

Thanks
