Scrimmage & Sanctioning questions - 09/23/11
Steve Although the XC season is under way, there still is always some confusion amoung the coaches regarding what meets need to be sanctioned and what meets don't need to be sanctioned, and if it's not sanctioned can results be kept and posted or not. So, below is a list where a YES or NO can be put next to each question. The assumption on all of these questions is that coaches want to score the meet and post the results so that is really what we're asking. As an example, I'll give you a no-brainer. "XC Meet is Sanctioned by CCS and only CCS schools are participating, there are a total of 12 CCS schools competeing - can results be kept/posted?" The answer would be "Yes". Here we go... Not sanctioned, 3 or fewer schools from same league - results OK? Yes Not sanctioned, 3 or fewer schools from DIFFERENT leagues - results OK? Yes Not sanctioned, 4 or more schools from the same league - results OK? Yes Not sanctioned, 4 or more schools from DIFFERENT leagues - results OK? If the meet is hosted by a CCS school and it is not sanctioned then no CCS team may participate. They risk forfeiting the contests and probation. Not sanctioned, 4 or more schools from same league all run together but the results are scored out seperately as dual meets (this facilitates not having to run more than 5-6 different races but allows for separate dual meet scoring) - results OK? Yes Not sanctioned, 4 or more schools from DIFFERENT leagues all run together but the results are scored out seperately as dual meets (this facilitates not having to run more than 5-6 different races but allows for separate dual meet scoring) - results OK? Yes AS LONG AS the schedule as advertised by the various schools involved reflects a dual competition against another school… Note: To adhere to the spirit of the rule, once a team has a dual on the same day in the same race against four or more schools, you have a tournament. Not sanctioned, 4 or more schools from same league but the meet is called a "Scrimmage" so no Team Results are kept but can individual results be kept and posted? No. According to scrimmage guidelines there can be no results at all. In fact, a scrimmage race can have modified circumstances so that coaches can stop the action and start it again…run a race in stages perhaps. I know that doesn’t translate to XC as well as other sports but it could be done. I will share these results with the other coaches at our end of season meeting.
