Paul Casterson

Paul Casterson of Nevada City died at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22. He was 53. A potluck celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 1, at Seamans Lodge in Pioneer Park, Nevada City. All are welcome. Paul was born in San Jose April 28, 1955. He grew up in Los Altos Hills and graduated from Gunn High School in 1973. He had a love of the ocean and was very active in the Sea Scouts where he became proficient in sailing and boating. He attended college at San Diego State and soon after college was hired by Club Med to be a wind surfing instructor in Cancun and then on to Guadalupe in the Caribbean. He later moved to Oahu, Hawaii, where he continued working in the wind surfing industry, became a world class wind surfing competitor and married his first wife, Debbie. They had two children, Dane and Marina, and then moved to Grass Valley in 1989. Paul’s career for the past 20 years has been as a residential builder and business owner of Casterson Construction. He was an avid mountain biker and enjoyed bikram yoga and camping. He is survived by his mother, Patricia Casterson; his wife, Kelly Casterson; his son, Dane, and daughter, Marina Casterson; his brothers David and Mark Casterson, and his sister Kathleen Eggers. He was predeceased by his father, Wilmer Casterson. We will all hold Paul deeply in our hearts as a man of incredible kindness and generosity. He was a brother, a husband, a son, a father and above all a beautiful human being. A donations account has been opened in Paul’s name, called the Paul Casterson Memorial Fund, at Citizens Bank of Nevada County. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary in Grass Valley.
