A terrible rubberized asphalt. So hot Brian Hunsaker had to be carried off because of blisters
and he was on crutches for a week after! Roy Kissin finished 3rd and Mitch Kingery 4th.

Everyone from Hulst to Lara ran between 8:51.8 and 9:16.5 for a full two miles in their State qualifier -
interesting good group influenced by the longer distances preached by New Zealand's Arthur Lydiard and others in the mid to late
1960's. Hulst's 8:44.9 is still among the top ten prep times ever run, with Serna's 8:45.9 making him the #9 prep in U.S. History (Hulst's
8:44.6 1976 best makes him #7). Hunt would run 8:45.2 to win the Arcadia Invite in 1976 for his prep best ever (#8 U.S. Prep in history).
Ajim Bakish (Hollywood) ran 12 miles 254 yards in an hour in what was a popular event back at that time--that's under 5:00 miles for an
entire hour with no rest! Bakish was also 14:04.2 for three miles that year on the track, with Richard Aguirre (above picture on the inside)
14:05.4 for 3 on the track. Eric Hulst was 28:22.8 for 6 miles on the track that year, with a 28:55.0 for a full 10k on the track the next year of
1976!. Thom Hunt raced 2:24.06 for the marathon in 1976, with Bakish 2:27.52 in 1974! Seventeen Californians ran under 9:08.3 for two
miles in 1975 (worth about 9:05 for 3200)!
