Cummins, Follmar and Belomy win for Saratoga at track finals

There was no team championship for the Saratoga track and field program at the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League El Camino Division finals last week. But that doesn't that there were no Falcons winning league titles.

Senior Tom Cummins and juniors Alicia Follmar and Gwen Belomy each won events at the division meet held May 5 at Santa Clara High School.

Cummins tossed the discus 155-4 to finish first in boys competition, and Follmar and Belomy each ran to wins in girls action.

The champs and the rest of the Saratoga placers will be back in action this week when the top 16 finishers from the De Anza and El Camino divisions will get together for the SCVAL Qualifier meet on May 15, 11 a.m., at Los Gatos. The top six placers Saturday advance to the Central Coast Section semifinals May 22 at San Jose City College.

Follmar was a double winner in the division. The talented junior outran Monta Vista's Dana Underwood twice, taking the 1,600 meters in 4:54.6 and the 800 in 2:20.05. Underwood finished second in both events.

Belomy topped the 300 hurdles in 47.99 for a Saratoga win. She was also second in the 400 in 1:03.75.

The Falcons were also second in the 4x100 relay in 52.48 and third in the 4x400 relay in 4:19.28 as they finished fourth as a team behind Monta Vista, Cupertino and Mountain View.

Lauren Belomy was fourth in the 3,200 in 12:29.28 with Kenna Crouch 10th in 13:21.06, and Belomy also ran sixth in the 1,600 in 5:36.57.

Amanda VanHoesen heaved the shot put 31-2.5 for fourth and she was seventh in the discus at 76-2. Mandy Fazio was fourth in the discus at 87-5 and ninth in the shot at 26-5.5.

Jordana Dreyfuss was sixth in the 200 in 28.26 and seventh in the 100 in 13.40, Chelsey Young was sixth in the 800 in 2:33.29 and Caroline Charles was seventh in the 400 in 1:07.57.

Cummins led the Saratoga boys to a team third behind Santa Clara and Monta Vista with his win in the discus. He was also fifth in the shot put at 42-4.5.

Senior William Alleshouse was second in the 400 meters in 52.29 and fourth in the 200 in 22.98. Phil Spencer third in the 100 in 11.23 and Michael Wong third in the 110 high hurdles in 16.86. The Falcons were also second in the 4x100 relay in 43.67.

Ken Douglas was fourth in the 1,600 in 4:39.25 and sixth in the 800 in 2:07.06. Hari Subramaniam added fifths in the 1,600 in 4:40.93 and the 3,200 in 10:23.28.

Mike Wong ran fifth in the 300 hurdles in 44.09 with Alvan Chyan sixth in 44.34, Eric Hwang was sixth in the 100 in 11.64 and Sean Bromage was eighth in the high jump at 5-0.

Jeff Lee was second in the high jump at 5-4 and third in the triple jump at 36-10.5 to lead the Saratoga effort in the boys frosh-soph division.

Kevin Wong was third in the shot put at 41-9 and fourth in the discus at 95-10, Ryan Tang was second in the 65 hurdles in 10.29, Lenny Liccardo was fourth in the 400 in 58.41, Andrew Wu was fifth in the 3,200 in 11:45.31 and Robbie Paolini was sixth in the 1,600 in 5:11.24.

Katie Barco was one of three Saratoga winners in the girls junior varsity division, and she led a one-two-three sweep for the Falcons in the 400 meters.

Barco was first in 1:07.09 with Madilyn Ray second in 1:09.24 and Sivakami Sambasivam third in 1:09.99.

Megan Finley and Laura Reeve finished one-two in the 1,600, and Reeve came back to win the 800 in 2:39.40. Finley took the 1,600 in 5:59.58 with Reeve second at 6:00.83.

Brianna Bowen was third in the long jump at 13-7.25, Laura McGowan was fourth in the discus at 60-6, Laurel Hui was fourth in the 300 hurdles in 59.21 with Sonia Roa fifth in 59.40, Katie Barco was sixth in the 200 in 29.53 and Alex Block was sixth in the 100 in 14.36.
