League Finals Week saw plenty of tough action and some very good times, especially
in the girls and specifically, Gunn! Still lacking the PAL results but had to get
this out before the weekend. Division races are heating up and some improved teams
have made grande statements about where they will be in the end. Hollister and
NMC are at this writing officially out (appeal pending), only individuals have

The tough invitationals and major dual meets are upon us as we head into the
middle of October. Recent Stanford Invitational followed by the Serra-Crystal

to the league dual meet series and a clear picture of rankings has developed after
as few have moved to position themselves for a final section push.

 3. St. Francis
 4. Notre Dame-San Jose
 5. Leland
 6. Lynbrook
 7. Half Moon Bay
 8. Gunn
 9. San Lorenzo Valley
10. Hollister

Rankings compiled by Bellarmine Coach Terry Ward, with input from several other CCS coaches.

The first week of the Mercury News Top 10 finds Hollister and St. Ignatius atop the lists.  The Balers have been running well as of late with impressive outings at both the Condor-Early Bird and Nevada-Union Invitationals.  St. Ignatius performed well at the Early Bird and Adidas Invitationals.
The absence of  Los Gatos in any of the long races made it hard to assess them this early, however the Wildcats ventured  to the desert last week and as soon as results are made available for the Las Vegas Invitational we'll have a better view of them.  In the mean time they drop to #2 after being the #1 pre-season leader.
Sacred Heart Cathedral has been running well with Rowbury and  company fairly well in major meets.  St. Francis in the girls and Bellarmine in the boys, round out the top three teams.

09/19

1  San Benito (Roaring team time at Early Bird launches them to the top!)
2   Bellarmine (Never count the Bells out, especially when any one of ten guys can fill their 1st five!  Fine team race at Oakmont on tough 3 mile Rocklin course!)
3   Los Gatos (Las Vegas meet could move them back up!)
4   St. Francis (Adidas Invit,  fair showing for a state champ)
5   North Monterey County (solid team race at Early Bird for a team that steadily improves)
6   Half Moon Bay (Good grouping with these guys makes them formidable)
7   Del Mar (Return of Varao and Rozewicz helps bottom, Gezahngn, Bekele & Melchor running well)
8   Mitty (Loss of several weakens state qualifier, however 1-2 punch is good)
9   Watsonville (Top 5 all less than a minute "team spread" at Early Bird)
10  St. Ignatius (Top 5 all within 30 seconds at Early Bird)
-----------------------------
Also Mentioned
11  Aptos (Young team showing promise over extended distance in Castroville)
12  Saratoga (Absence of  Richard La past weekend hurt team time, but they are still good)
13  James Lick (Ambitious pace at Early Bird dampened team effort, but team bounced back in late stages of race proving fitness)
14  Serra (appear to be running tired, indicates work, this team will be there at the end)
15  Leland (This group has been together for 3 years, running for a masterful coach, plenty of character and tradition on their side)

***** Girls *****

1   St. Ignatius (Impressive showing at Early Bird, even the high jumper were tough!)

Central Coast Section Cross Country 1999 RE: List of returnees by Team and Individual From: Daniel Cruz, Del Mar HS August 2, 1999 @ Crystal Springs, Belmont, CA., 2.95 miles Boys & Girls TOP 25 Individuals, COMBINED and Top 5 returnees per division. Top 25 Teams, COMBINED, all in team time format CCS-Post, 2nd Edition, Article #1 Title: CCS Returness, Cross Country 1999 The 1999 Cross-Country season is upon us with much anticipation by many teams and individuals for what should be another exciting year in the Central Coast Section. The following is a compilation of the Top 5 returnees per division combined with the Top 25 returnees ranked by time at Crystal Springs Resevior. Additionally, you will find the Top 25 teams assessed by time/returnees with as few as three (3) individuals. **Comment** I realize that many of you have strong and developed F/S boys and JV Girls teams with developing runners who will fill in for those graduates who make holes in your top 7. This list is only an assessment of teams of runners who competed in the Section Final, it does not include any of your developmental runners in your under-class programs. For instance, I am sure that Terry has at least one guy from his JV team or even an incoming frosh who can run 16:50-17:00! For that matter I am sure that Willie has 2 or 3 girls who can run at least 21:00! You can adjust from there. DC ********** Boys ************* Top five (5) returning individuals in the BOYS from Division I (77:55) are Ben Morales (San Benito), Neil Davis (Bellarmine), Eddie Alaniz (Mt. Pleasant), Joey Kaufman (San Benito), and Paul Roge (Bellarmine).
