Sport: Cross-country Class: Junior
Accomplishment: Sitler continued his impressive season by defending his Serra/Crystal Springs Invitational title, completing the 2.95-mile course in 15 minutes, 27 seconds. Sitler, a rare co-captain as a junior, has twice this season set meet records. ``He's a very fierce competitor and a very smart racer,'' St. Francis Coach Brian Curly said. ``He just loves to compete.'' Last season, Sitler won the West Catholic Athletic League meet and finished fifth at the Central Coast Section meet.
Jessica Buffum, Lynbrook
Sport: Volleyball Position: Outside hitter
Class: Senior
Accomplishment: The MVP last season in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League El Camino Division has kept the second-place Vikings' division-title hopes afloat. Buffum, a four-year varsity player and two-time all-league selection, totaled 40 kills in crucial four-set victories over Wilcox and Monta Vista. ``She seems to get stronger every year,'' Lynbrook Coach Josh Buffum said. ``No matter what challenge seems to get in her way, she steps up and meets it and beats it.'' Buffum has drawn interest from Georgetown.
