Two-time state sprint champion Jeneba Tarmoh of Mt. Pleasant made an oral commitment to run for the University of Tennessee.

Tarmoh took recruiting trips to Tennessee, Texas and Texas A&M before settling on the Volunteers and canceling a trip to USC.

Mt. Pleasant Coach Steve Nelson said Tarmoh felt comfortable with the team and sprint coach Caryl Smith Gilbert, and enjoyed a football game against Florida along with 106,000 others at Neyland Stadium.

``They do a lot of speed and power-oriented stuff like we do,'' Nelson said. ``But I think the biggest thing is that she got along well with the girls, and really bonded.''

Tarmoh won the 100 and 200 meters at the state championships in June, set Central Coast Section records in both events and was part of a United States junior national team that broke the world junior record in the 400 relay and captured the world championship.
