SELECTION OF THE TEAM: The All Northern California Cross Country Team is sponsored by
The Northern California Track & Field Association. The Selection committee for this year's
team was composed of: Plato Yanicks (Menlo-Atherton), chairman; Homer Latimer (Leigh);
Terry Ward (St Ignatius); Dough Johnson (Petaluma); Bill Thompson (Alameda). Oher coaches
who contributed were: Bob McGuire (Pleasant Hill); Dan Greenwald (Bella Vista); Bob
Wall (Lassen); Ed Maurice (Downey); David Peterson (Skyline); Bob Woods (Camden).
AREA REPRESENTED IN THE SELECTION OF THE HONOR TEAM: The team was composed of
athletes from six sections: North Coast, Central Coast, North, San Joaquin, SF and Oakland.
Over 100 athletes were considered by the committee. The geographical boundaries of the
selections went from the Oregon border in the North, to Merced in the South.

COMMENTS: The letter "K" played a big part in the 1973 season, as Kimball, Kingery and
Kissen led the selections for the 1973 All Northern California team. Rich Kimball went
undefeated for the season, climaxing his senior campaign with a win over previously undefeated
Mitch Kingery in the final race of the year.
Leigh High School of San Jose dominated the team with several selections on the first and
second teams and the honorable mention list. Eight juniors make up the first team. One of
the highest number of non-senior selections ever. The Central Coast Section again led the
way with nine selections, followed by seven from the North Coast Section.
