The 1975 USTFF-Track and Field News Postal can be summed up quite easily-
high quality despite a smaller field in every division.

Here are the records which were established in 1975:

high school frosh 2 mile individ9:31.2 Carlos Carrasco (Mt Pleasant, San Jose, CA)
high school frosh 2 mile team 52:10.4 Westminister, CA
high school varsity 2 mile indiv8:51.8 Ron Craker (York, Elmhurst, IL)
high school varsity 3 mile team 73:17.6 York, Elmhurst, IL

The freshman division was again dominated by California schools. In
the 2 mile race 11 of 21 were from Calif. Last year only 7 of the 56
entries were non-Cal schools. The frosh 3 mile winner Greg McDonald
(Camden, San Jose, CA) moved into the No. 9 spot on the all-time list.
Carlmont's 83:24.2 is No. 2 all-time.

The varsity 2 Mile was quality personified. Only 59 squads entered
(Vs 104 in 1975 [I think he meant '74] but the marks turned in were outstanding.
York (46:52.0) Cretin (47:03.4) and Redwood (47:34.8) now rank No. 2, 3 and
9 respectively all time. The following is a comparison of how many
teams dipped under various limits:

                    1974 1975

48:00 4 5
49:00 12 17
50:00 29 29

In addition, 30 runners bettered 9:30 vs only 25 last year. Record
setter Craker was 7th last year, 3rd placer Tim Holmes was 5th,
Warre 12th. Second place Hoffman is now 9th all-time, 4th fastest
junior ever. Love and Berry, who placed 13th and 14th, are the 4th
and 5th fastest sophs ever. Prep three mile winner George Aguirre was
2nd in '74 (14:11.0).

In the University division, the first four spots became No's. 7-10 all-time.
Braun defended the title he won in 1974. Only Oregon's 1970 (68:26.8)
and 1967 (68:55.7) times are faster by a collegian team than Washington's
1975 winning accumulation of 69:14.4. Mike Flint moved into the No. 4
spot on the all-time J.C. list.

The 18th annual nation-wide postal competition was co-sponsored by Track
and Field News and the Inited States Track and Field Federation. Any
additions or corrections or questions regarding the 1976 Postal Competition
should be mailed to Carl Cooper, Executive Director, USTFF, 1225 N 10th Ave
