Lynbrook Viking Girls take 2nd at CCS T&F Finals. If I'm not mistaken, that is their best finish since 1991 when the Lady Vikes won CCS (some of their parents might have or could have been on that winning team - Congrats Lady Vikes. Shot above shows the 4x100 teams - Guys 1st place and gals 4th place. All Comer Meets will be held at Independence HS in July, click here for more information. SCVAL Post-season Track Meeting: is Wed, June 2nd at 8pm via Zoom call. If you have anything you would like to put on the agenda/minutes, please email Julie by Tuesday, June 1. SCVAL Qualifier: A few Meet Records were broken, Megan MacKenzie (LA) broke into the Top 3 in the TJ. Boys 1600 first 4 all broke the MR let by junior Harrison Dance (Saratoga). Joshua Kung (LA) took the LJ record by 1/2 inch. SCVAL Division Finals saw for DAL with Los Altos-169 over Paly-101 in the Boys and Los Gatos-114 over Lynbrook-105 on the Girls. In the EC it was Mt View-105 over Wilcox-103 on the boys and Mt View-122 over Monta Vista-93 on the girls. See the "Virtual" results in RESULTS. Just got word that long time Lynbrook (1965-1989) Coach Verne Thornberg passed away in Turlock. Verne was there when Lynbrook HS opened, he was the MD for many CCS & NorCal Finals and was an avid Cal Bear fan. I knew of Verne when I ran in HS and saw him at meets, and then got to pick his brain some 20 years later when I took over the program at Lynbrook. RIP Coach Thornburg - obit. From Rich Gonzalez: **BREAKING** There will no be State track & field meet for 2021, CIF-State just announced. In reality, the meet's fate was really decided months ago, when 4 of the state's 10 CIF sections canceled their own postseason (state-qualifying meets). More sections were going in that direction with their section finals meets as well. There was no way it was going to be close to a “full” (real) State meet with so many top athletes missing. Two new CCS records were set at the DSDF#2. Bellarmine broke Homestead's (1968) records in the 4x2mi and 5x2mi (which was a NR in 1968). Bells Team of Luis Daniel Vaca, Nolan Topper, Galen Topper, Colin Peattie (and Tanish Chettiar) ran 36:54.73yc (and 46:32.65yc) beating the Homestead times of 37:35.7 (and 47:11.2). Could another attempt be out there at DSDF#3? Christopher HS (Santa Clara County) is a team of 25 looking for any track competition in the Santa Clara county we can get. State Meet Exhibition events: I'm sure you track historians knew that the javelin was an exhibition event in the early years of the Cal State T&F Meet but did you know that the Hand Grenade toss (for accuracy) was an exhibition event in 1920 (almost in 1919 as well).
