================ ARTICLES & MISC =================
Daniel Mattioli (Carlmont) runs a PR 11.17 at the Lynbrook Invite for an 8th place (1st in his heat) finish.
In early April 1975, Cubberley HS in Palo Alto cancels the rest of their track season due to low turnout. Five years later they were the CCS Track Champions and then the school closed that June.
At the CCS meet in 1988, Loren Lansberry (Carlmont) and Plato Yanicks (M-A) were awarded the Track&Field Honor Coaches for their contributions to the sport for 30+ years, each. They are the reason that CCS started the Honor Coach program the following year for coaches in all sports. But as you can see (if you click on the link) they are not mentioned in the History of Honor Coaches since it didn't begin until the following year and Lansberry retired in 1988, Yanicks in 1986. I wanted their efforts to be recognized - Thank you Coach Lansberry and Coach Yanicks. 15 year old runs sub-4:00 mile for the youngest ever (video here).
Dare I say it felt like Spring at the Firebird Relays? Two guys (Anik Singh, Leigh & Alexander Dillon, Milpitas) went 6-06 while breaking the Meet Record as did Lelani Laruelle (Monta Vista) while clearing 5-08. Pics
Hurdlers are so focused at the St Francis Invite. Pics
Timers can relate... When a starter forgets their gun so you improvise.
Open Letter to the Track & Field Community (USATF)
For the first time in RustBuster meet history, it did not rain. Cool, overcast day made for some great marks and many meet records. Hurdles at early season meets can be quite the challenge. Nice shot of a relay. Pictures at here and here and here. Videos Here
Back in 1981, Larry Rice & Joyce Ridgway were the CCS Commissioner and his assistant. Larry loved all sports and was a pilot. Joyce played Paddle Tennis before it became known as PickleBall. Thanks to these two for making the CCS run smoothly.
Jorge Chen (Menlo) NFHS Coach Of The Year.
New rule for 2025... It used to be that if a runner went down in a distance race in the first 100m, the race should be recalled. For this year a runner needs to go down in the first 50m, after that the race may progress (for XC, it's still the first 100m).
SCVAL Pre-season Track Meeting: is Monday, January 27th at 4:00pm at Santa Clara Admin building (same as usual). If you have anything you would like to put on the agenda, please email Julie by noon Sunday, January 26. Meeting Handouts. SCVAL minutes
