4x1mi Record: Back in the day (1971 to be exact) a quartet from Clairemont HS (San Diego area) went after the 4x1 mile National record and came pretty darn close. Members are: Rick Lord (my SDSU teammate a few years later), Dale Fleet, Dave Harper & Mark Novak. List of current marks thru 2015.

SCVAL End Of Season Meeting (Agenda): Thursday May 18th at the Fremont Union High School District Offices in the PLC room at 7pm. A map is attached. Podium at CCS, free entry to One Mile Bang.: The 7th Annual One Mile Bang, being held June 25, 2017, is a One Mile Road race in Los Gatos, CA. Adding to the mix this year is a new event: the High School Challenge. It will consist of a combined heat of both High School Boys and Girls. The course is flat, fast, and point-to-point, with a slight downhill finish. So, a great chance to go for an all-time P.R. Awards given to Top 3 overall for both Boys and Girls divisions. ** Special Invite: Top 6 runners in CCS in the 1600M for both Boys and Girls all get comped entries (pre-register only). SCVAL Realignment: Attached are the standings for the last 2 years and the realignment calculations. An error was made last year in the DAL F/S Boys calculations. The standings have the corrections. Currently, I have Mt. View going up to DAL and Homestead going down to ECL.

Lynbrook Vs Homestead Meet Records: Final dual meet for the Viking season pits them against the Mustangs, will any Meet Records be broken?

Derek Clayton:: With the Boston Marathon just being completed, back in '69 Derek Clayton ran 2:08:34 for a World Record that lasted for 12 years. He was the first person to break 2:10 in the marathon. Why did I feature Derek... I worked with him for two years at Runner's World and we competed together on the RW Track Team at the Corporate Relays.

Some History:: When 5'7" Johnny Mathis (accomplished recording artist) competed against 6'10" Bill Russell (famed basketball player) at a HS meet and then again in the HJ at San Francisco State. Last photo is >Johnny and brother Ralph.

Illegal Uniform: Note the winner in this photo... this is an illegal uniform. "Any visible garment(s) worn underneath the uniform bottom and extending below the knees shall be of a single, solid color". Don't take the chance of getting DQ'd.

Because three of the above 4 did something that no one else has done in the 39 years that Los Gatos has been hosting these All-Comer meets, they competed in EVERY track event, finishing with the 4x400 and using a banana as their baton - Go Stanford Track Club!

Steve Scott: (former American record holder in the Mile) has one World Record that has lasted 38 years and most likely will never be broken, the fastest round of Golf, ever. He shot a 95 on a 6500yd course (3.7mi) in 29:33 minutes (under 8:00 pace). Speed Golf.

Homestead HS: located in Cupertino, the heart of Silicon Valley, and a member of the Central Coast Section (CCS), is seeking Jumps, Sprint and Hurdles coaches for the 2017 track and field season. This just concluded cross country season, we won our third consecutive CCS Team Championship, and have a very young nucleus as a team that are returning from last year to continue the success that we have been moving toward. Mills HS: in Millbrae is currently looking for a transitional throwers coach. A new coach would work with our existing throwers staff this season with the intent that a new coach would take over the throwers program next year or the year after. Bellarmine All-Comer Dec 10th: The 9:00 am 2 mile will be broken into heats and used by us, at least, as a Postal time trial… runners can run fast heats of the 3200 for Postal. All events will have Brad Lindemann timing FAT with our FinishLynx system.

Harker School: needs two assistant track coaches, duties range from sprints/hurdles/jumps depending on experience and knowledge. This is a paid position, workouts begin January 4, 3:15p-5:15p, Monday to Friday, some Saturdays. Email inquiries to head coach: Scott Chisam, scottc@staff.harker.org.

Pioneer High School: is looking for a Hurdles Coach, Throwing Coach.

Gunderson High School: is looking for a Throws coach for the upcoming Track & Field season. Gunderson is located in South San Jose (easily seen from the 85 and 87 interchange) and competes in the BVAL. Candidates are preferred who have previous experience coaching throws and/or experience as an athlete. Flexibility of schedule is possible. The team will be around 60 boys and girls of all grade levels, skill levels, and abilities. The throwers team has grown to about 12-15 athletes over the last two seasons and is expected to be about that size this year. These athletes have a great attitude, willing to work hard and several have a solid foundation in throwing.
